Asteven Group supports launch of One Nigerian Child - One Solar Lamp

With the vast majority of Nigeria’s school age children laboring under crippling economic fortunes and huge energy poverty, and at risk of debilitating illness through use of kerosene lamps, Candles and paraffin lamps, known as Atukpa in local parlance; Asteven International Energy Group is supporting the duo of the Akpoyibo Green Foundation and the Women in Renewable Energy Nigeria Association, to ensure that every Nigerian child, from the hills, to the creeks, the streets to the slums, from homes to schools, has at least one solar lamp through a social impact initiative, One Nigerian Child-One Solar Lamp.

Launched on the 12th of April, 2019, with the sole aim of providing school pupils with portable solar reading lamps, the purpose of the “One Nigerian Child One Solar Lamp” campaign is to eradicate the instances of school children reading with pollution emitting lighting sources which are hazardous to human development and the environment.

According to a statement by Akpoyibo Green Foundation at the launch; ‘It is very important and there are numerous benefits to replacing the use of candles and kerosene lanterns with solar reading lamps that are affordable, clean, bright, safe, eco friendly, saves money and helps to improve grades of school pupils”. We have discovered that kids in Nigeria do love the solar light and now more schools in Nigeria and indeed, Africa have the opportunity to transform their students’ lives for a brighter and better future.

To promote this cause and take this mission to a wider audience and across nations; the foundation has joined hands with and look to partner with various organizations, institutions, NGOs, Student bodies, Media and all those sharing a similar vision.

We therefore call on everybody to support & get involved in this social impact initiative by providing financial and in-kind support to the One Nigeria Child One Solar Reading Lamp mission.

We must change the Energy Narrative in Nigeria.
